Mike Barry

Mike is Head of Corporate Social Responsibility at the UK retailer Marks & Spencer.
He was part of the small team that developed the company's groundbreaking Plan A, a 100 point, 5 year plan to address a wide range of environmental and social issues. He helps provide the vision and the energy to affect change and ensure a leading but efficient approach to sustainability across the company.
He deals with issues as diverse as sustainable fish sourcing, chemicals in products, labour standards in factories, animal welfare, food miles, privacy and data protection, genetic modification, fair trade, wood sourcing, community investment, cotton sourcing and climate change. His working life is broadly divided into three parts. Listening to and prioritising stakeholder expectations of Marks & Spencer, integrating them into corporate strategy and working with shops, business units and suppliers to deliver more sustainable products and wider business activity.
Prior to joining Marks & Spencer in 2000, he worked as an environment manager in the engineering sector and as an environmental consultant. He is a chemistry graduate from Sheffield University.

Henri-Xavier Benoist

Henri-Xavier has a Masters in Engineering (ESIEE Paris) and Masters in Supply Management (HEC Paris). He started as a consultant for Thales Consulting and then KPMG consulting in France within the operation practices. From 2000 – 2004 Henri- Xavier worked as a planning and customer services director for Danone Waters, France. He was in charge of planning and executing distribution to French, European and overseas markets for brands such as Evian and Volvic. He Joined Danone Waters UK in June 2004 as supply chain director with the challenge of reengineering the distribution to secure service level and reduce costs. Since August 2007 he has been in charge of milk sourcing, supply and development for the fresh dairy business for Danone France.

David Croft

David Croft joined Cadbury in June 2005 as Ethical Sourcing Director before being promoted in October 2006 to the role of global Director of Conformance and Sustainability. Based in London, David is a member of the Supply Chain leadership team, headed by Steve Driver, President, Global Supply Chain.
David’s principal responsibilities encompass Cadbury global activity on food safety and quality programme, health and safety, environmental management and environmental sustainability, ethical sourcing and sustainable agriculture. He is currently a member of the Food Ethics council, and has previously served as a director of the Ethical Trading Initiative, and as a Council member at the Campden & Chorleywood Food Research Association.
Prior to joining Cadbury, David worked for the Co-operative Group in Manchester, UK, where he held a number of senior roles within their retail business, leading technical and marketing functions, including quality assurance, product and brand development, ethical sourcing, and retail standards. While at the Co-op, he led a number of high profile consumer marketing campaigns, addressing issues such as Fairtrade, organic and integrated farm management, animal welfare, and consumer diet and health. David holds an MBA and MSc degree in Environmental Health.

Richard Heathcote

Richard Heathcote graduated in Zoology & Biochemistry from Hull and then gained an MSc in Freshwater Hydrobiology from Cardiff. Richard has previously worked for Bass Brewers, Smiths Crisps and Thames Water in a variety of IT related roles before joining Bulmers in 1988 as an IT Project Manager. In 1997 Richard left IT and moved into a line management role as Production Planning Manager for Bulmers, and after two years moved into a change management/business development role, focussing on supply chain design, before moving into a Sustainable Development role at Bulmers in 2001. Richard now looks after sustainable development issues across S&N UK, including Bulmers, ranging from issues of community investment and responsible drinking through to renewable energy, water recycling and alternative uses of by-products. Richard also works closely with the Bulmer Foundation (www.bulmerfoundation.org.uk) on Herefordshire related work, with colleagues across the S&N group on wider corporate responsibility matters. Richard also chairs the National Association of Cidermakers sustainable development committee, is a Board member of Advantage West Midlands Food & Drink Cluster Opportunity Group, and is a non-exec Director of AWM’s Rural Regeneration Zone.

Jonathan Horrell

Jonathan Horrell is Kraft Foods' Corporate Affairs Director, UK and Ireland. He has responsibility for external and internal communications, issues management and community involvement.
He has been at Kraft since 2003 and has managed communications programmes supporting the company's introduction of coffees from Rainforest Alliance Certified farms to the UK and Ireland, including media relations and stakeholder engagement.
He also leads Kraft's UK & Ireland communications and public affairs initiatives supporting health and wellness, including engagement with policy makers and industry associations, as well as advocacy of healthy lifestyles via the schools and community programme, health 4 schools.
Jonathan previously worked in the UK dairy industry, as head of communications at First Milk a £500-million farmer owned milk business with interests in milk distribution, processing and marketing. In that time, he directed media and trade body strategies in matters including industry mergers and crisis management, including the well-publicised Foot and Mouth outbreak. Prior to that, he worked for Milk Marque, in the newly de-regulated UK dairy industry of the mid 1990s.
Between 1990 and 1994 Jonathan worked as a journalist on a variety of IT and finance titles, latterly as a reporter for Accountancy Age, the weekly independent paper for the accountancy and finance profession.

Neil joined Green & Black’s in early 2002. He has extensive experience of managing various aspects of global supply chains; ranging from management of large agricultural plantations in Africa exporting to Europe and the Far East, management of procurement and logistics operations from South America, Europe and Australia for a UK fruit distributor to his current position as Head of Supply Chain for Green & Black’s.
Green & Black’s core brand values incorporate quality, taste, organics and ethics. These values need to be applied through the entire supply chain which includes among others; cocoa from Belize and the Dominican Republic, sugar from Brazil, cherries from Uzbekistan, almonds from Sicily and milk powder from Germany.
Neil lives in East Kent and in his spare time, when not acting as taxi for his two teenage children, coaches the U15 team at his local rugby club.

Kathy Larson

Kathy has worked at Frontier since 1980, and has held a variety of management positions in Purchasing, Quality Assurance, Research and Development, and Marketing. She has been a member of Frontier's management team from its first formation, and she served two terms on Frontier's Board of Directors. She is currently a member of the United Plant Savers' Board of Directors and the Food Trade Sustainability Leadership Board. She currently directs sustainability and education programs.

Dennis Macray

Dennis Macray currently oversees Starbucks company-wide ethical sourcing initiatives for green coffee and non-coffee products including development of Starbucks Supplier Code of Conduct, Starbucks C.A.F.E. Practices (Coffee and Farmer Equity) Program for Sustainable Green Coffee purchasing, and Starbucks Cocoa Practices for ethically sourced cacao.
Macray has managed sustainability programs for Starbucks domestic and international operations, including cocoa, tea, Fair Trade Certified™ coffee, Shade-Grown coffee, and manufactured goods. He leads the Global Responsibility team in overseeing the Starbucks Annual CSR Report data collection and documentation activities for reporting progress across global operations.
Prior to joining Starbucks, Macray worked with Viatru, Inc. (formerly World2Market.com) linking fair trade producers to major retailers and alternative trade organizations. Dennis’ previous experience includes working in Latin America with the Katalysis Partnership, Conservation International, and serving as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Guatemala. He is a graduate of Harvard and has an MBA from the University of California at Berkeley.

Bob Norman

Bob Norman has worked for AAK UK Ltd for 16 years: first in a sales role and then in shipping and trading, where he was appointed to the role of Shipping Manager. AAK have been actively supporting the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) since its creation and, in 2003 presented the "Book and Claim" supply chain concept. In 2007, the RSPO gave exclusive endorsement to AAK to set up the system and, subsequently, GreenPalm Ltd (a wholly owned subsidiary of AAK) became a reality, with Bob being appointed General Manager.

Clare Oxborrow is Friends of the Earth's Food Campaigner, working on the organisation's new livestock and biodiversity campaign and leading its GM campaign. She has been in her current role for five years. She is also on the management board of GM Freeze. Clare holds an MSc in Conservation from UCL and a BSc in Ecology and Conservation.

Simon Rilatt has worked in the fish industry for more than 30 years. He has been with Young's since 1977 and held a number of senior fish purchasing roles for the company before taking the key position of director of seafood sustainability in October this year. In this role he guides the sustainable fish agenda not just for Young's but for the whole of its parent group in Europe, Foodvest.

Richard Perkins

Richard Perkins works for WWF-UK as a Senior Policy Adviser on Agricultural Supply Chains. He aims to inspire businesses that rely on agricultural raw materials to measurably reduce their key environmental impacts. He has been a member of Unilever’s Sustainable Agriculture Advisory Board since it started in 2000. He is a member of the Global Reporting Initiative Food Processing Sector Supplement Working Group and sits on the Steering Committees of the Natural Value Initiative and the Food Climate Research Network.
He has worked for WWF on agriculture since 1999 first on agricultural policy reform and since 2001 on engaging with businesses to help them to improve their key environmental impacts. Between 2004 and 2007 he worked on sugarcane for WWF and was responsible for the establishment of the Better Sugarcane Initiative, a multi-stakeholder initiative to improve the key global social and environmental impacts of sugar cane production. He was responsible for guiding the early inception of WWF’s recently published work on virtual water and more recently has developed farm and landscape level indicators of the key environmental impacts of agriculture which he is using to help progressive food companies and multi-stakeholder groups.

Sophi Tranchell

Sophi is Managing Director of Divine Chocolate Ltd, the pioneering Fairtrade company co-owned by farmers. Over the last nine years, she and her team have built the company and the brand from a wonderful idea to a dynamic robust business turning over £10 million with £500k profit. She has a high profile as a champion of the company's mission to improve the lives of smallholder cocoa farmers in West Africa through a fairer trading relationship, and is an innovative marketeer, creating a brand that delights and engages consumers.
To further set this farmer-owned Fairtrade company apart, Sophi has overseen the development of Dubble – a Fairtrade chocolate brand specially for young people. Co-founded with Comic Relief, and accompanied by award-winning education resources for young people, the brand has attracted a signed up fan club of 50,000 proactive young Fairtraders. Sophi is also a founding trustee of Trading Visions, an education charity established to build awareness of fair trade issues and to amplify the voices of smallscale producers.
In 2007 Sophi was proud to announce the first Dividend paid to the farmers as shareholders, and on Valentine’s Day 2007, she attended the launch of the USA company Divine Chocolate Inc she helped to set up, with a briefing on Capitol Hill and front page coverage.
In 2007 Sophi also won the Real Business /CBI First Woman award for Retail and Property. Divine was later voted Best Social Enterprise at the Enterprising Solutions Awards, and Sophi was invited to become one of the Social Enterprise Ambassadors. She is also the chair of the steering committee to make London a Fairtrade City and elected director and vice chair of Social Enterprise London. Most recently she was appointed a member of the newly formed Council on Social Action, chaired by the Prime Minister.
Most recently Divine Chocolate won the Observer Ethical Business Award.

Jan Kees Vis

Jan Kees Vis was trained as a chemist and received a PhD in Heterogeneous Catalysis in 1984. He joined Unilever in 1985, at the Unilever Research Laboratory in Vlaardingen. He held several positions there, then moved to the foods business. For more than 10 years he worked on Environmental Life Cycle Analysis, Environmental Management Systems, environmental auditing and standard setting, environmental training, environmental reporting and preparation of policy proposals on environmental issues.
Since beginning of 2001, he is Director Sustainable Agriculture for Unilever.
Jan Kees has been involved in, and holds or has held board positions in, Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil, Sustainable Agriculture Initiaitive Platform, Sustainable Food Laboratory and the Roundtable for Responsible Soy.
